How to choose the right uniform for your security team

A practical guide for managers: the criteria that truly matter when standardizing your operation's uniforms.

Choosing the right uniform for your security team goes far beyond color and size. Inadequate uniforms create rework, increase operational costs, and — more seriously — compromise your company's image in front of clients.

1. Understand the operational context first

Each operation has specific requirements. A corporate front desk guard needs a uniform that conveys credibility and discretion. An armed escort team needs garments with greater durability and mobility. An event operation needs clear identification even in environments with movement and varying lighting.

  • What is the work environment? (indoor, outdoor, mixed)
  • What is the level of physical wear in the operation?
  • Is there exposure to rain, sun, or extreme temperatures?
  • Does the operation require firearms carry? (impacts the type of vest cover and accessories)
  • What is the level of visual demand from end clients?

2. Prioritize fabric resistance

The biggest mistake purchasing managers make is evaluating uniforms solely by unit price. A cheaper product that lasts 3 months costs much more over a year than a more expensive piece with 12-month durability — not to mention the administrative cost of each replacement process.

  • Soft Polyester: good cost-benefit ratio for low to medium physical wear operations.
  • Polyester 600: more resistant, recommended for operations with constant exposure.
  • Ripstop-Polyester: maximum tear and abrasion resistance. Ideal for tactical and outdoor operations.

3. Customization: far beyond the logo

Customizing uniforms is not just about placing the company logo. It is about ensuring your team is recognized from a distance, conveys organization, and reinforces your brand positioning. Embroidery, silk-screen, colors, and modeling are differentiators that make a difference in client perception.

"A well-presented team conveys authority and closes more contracts. The uniform is the first visual impact your client has of your company."

4. Volume and frequency define the purchasing strategy

Companies with 50 or more employees need a supplier that guarantees batch consistency — same color, same cut, same material across all orders. Batch variation is one of the main problems reported by managers who work with suppliers without their own production.

  • Less than 10 units: consider individual or ready-to-ship purchases.
  • 10 to 50 units: negotiate delivery time and batch consistency.
  • 50 to 200 units: demand dedicated B2B service and samples before production.
  • Above 200 units: evaluate a continuous supply contract with guaranteed price tables.
